In a statement, Barcelona said Umtiti had an injury-free season in Italy, where he performed at his best and made 25 appearances for Lecce, for whom he played on loan from Barca last season.
Unlike last season, Umtiti has suffered from repeated injuries that have long kept him away from Barcelona and even the French team, with whom he crowned the 2018 World Cup in Russia when he was in his prime.
Umtiti, 29, moved to Barcelona from Lyon in 2016, where he won the Spanish Liga twice, the Copa del Rey three times and the Spanish Super Cup twice.
