Oncologist Dr. Alexander Siryakov announced that prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men. What are its first symptoms and how to diagnose it?
In an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, the specialist points out that, according to the World Health Organization, prostate cancer ranks second after lung cancer in men.
He says: “As a rule, at first there are no noticeable symptoms of prostate cancer. Therefore, the disease is often diagnosed at advanced stages, when severe symptoms already appear, such as various urinary disorders, pain in the lower abdomen, in the perineum (the perineum is the part between the anus and penis), erection problems, pressure in the anus, blood in the urine and / or semen, pain during ejaculation.
Prostate cancer usually develops slowly, he says, and may only remain confined to the prostate for months or years. This tumor grows gradually, and if left untreated, it spreads to the tissues surrounding the gland, which puts pressure on nearby tissues and organs.
“Typically, early-stage prostate cancer responds well to treatment,” he says. However, it is impossible to predict the results of the treatment of the disease in the later stages, as it can be very bad.”
And the doctor points out that for early diagnosis of the disease, it is necessary to conduct a periodic examination of the prostate, which includes an analysis of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood.
He says: “The exact causes of prostate cancer are not known, but many factors are believed to contribute to its infection. Among them are the age of 45 years and older, heredity, metabolic disorders, weak immunity, endocrine and immune system disorders, chronic infections and lack of physical activity.
