Urge Patrushev to Clarify the Cyber Security Agreement to the West

Moscow, March 29 – The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation said that the SCO countries must jointly prevent the West from weakening the essence of the international agreement that is being developed under the auspices of the United Nations on combating the use of cyber technologies for criminal purposes.
Speaking on Wednesday in New Delhi at the meeting of secretaries of the security councils of the SCO countries, Patrushev said that it is practically important to focus on implementing the activities of the interaction plan among SCO member states on ensuring international information security 2022-2023.
“In addition, the Russian concept of a UN convention on ensuring international information security was presented within the framework of the open-ended working group on the UN dossier,” Patrushev said. His statements were quoted in the press service of the Security Council.
He added that Russia is interested in supporting the promotion of this initiative, which meets the interests of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and is ready to take into account constructive proposals from the partners in the organization.

Patrushev said that “all SCO member states are actively involved in drawing up an international agreement against the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for criminal purposes, under the auspices of the United Nations.” .
In addition, according to him, the SCO countries make a constructive contribution to international anti-terrorism cooperation.
“Our common approaches in this field are based on strict adherence to international law, while respecting the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and recognizing the leading role of states and their competent authorities in this work. In this context, we note the successful implementation of the program of cooperation in combating Terrorism, separatism and extremism in 2022-2024.
He stressed that the implementation of counter-terrorism measures is of great practical importance, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is succeeding in developing balanced approaches to anti-extremism issues.
“We bear in mind the 2017 Shanghai Cooperation Organization agreement on combating extremism, and stress the importance of its implementation and strengthening practical cooperation between countries,” Patrushev explained.
