US delivers HIMARS to Kurdish fighters in northern Syria
The United States has transferred the Highly Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) – a light multiple rocket launcher mounted on an Army Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV) to the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), YPG terrorists, sources said on Tuesday.
TRT Haber quoted sources as saying that Hemars was transferred to the American base in Deir Ezzor Governorate, in northern Syria.
US forces have intensified their efforts to strengthen their bases in Hasakah, Deir Ezzor and Raqqa since last year, after targeting military points in the region by foreign terrorist groups backed by Iran.
The PKK is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, Turkey and the European Union. Washington’s support for the People’s Protection Units affiliated with it in Syria has put great pressure on bilateral relations with Ankara.
The United States has primarily partnered with the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northeastern Syria to fight the terrorist organization ISIS. On the other hand, Turkey strongly opposed the presence of YPG terrorist organizations in northern Syria. Ankara has long objected to US support for the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), a group that poses a threat to Turkey and terrorizes local residents, destroying their homes and forcing them to flee.
Under the pretext of fighting ISIS, the United States provided military training and provided truckloads of military support to YPG terrorists, despite the security concerns of its NATO ally.
And in continuation of its support for the YPG / PKK terrorist organization, the US forces are currently active in many military bases and points in Syria, in the areas occupied by the organization in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.
In the proposed US Department of Defense budget for 2023, a total of $542 million is earmarked for a fund to support training and equipment for various groups, including the YPG/PKK terrorist group. The United States works with the People’s Protection Units/PKK in Iraq and Syria under the pretext of fighting the terrorist organization ISIS.
