Venus Williams Withdraws from Tennis Tournament in Cleveland

American tennis player Venus Williams has announced her withdrawal from the tennis tournament in Cleveland, USA. The tournament has a prize fund of over $270,000. The news was shared on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter).

Change in Match Lineup

In the first round of the tournament, Williams was scheduled to play against Mira Andreeva. However, due to Williams’ withdrawal, Andreeva’s new opponent will be Tamara Korbach from Germany. Andreeva is currently ranked 67th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.

The Cleveland Championships, part of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), was scheduled to start on August 21, 2023, at 17:00. However, the tournament has been canceled.

Player Background

Andreeva has been making notable achievements in her tennis career. In April, she became the youngest tennis player to reach the fourth round of a WTA 1000 tournament since its reform in 2009. She also reached the third round at Roland Garros in June and the fourth round at Wimbledon in July. On the other hand, Venus Williams is currently ranked 407th in the world and has won seven Grand Slam tournaments, including five Wimbledon titles. She has a total of 49 singles titles to her name.
