Moscow, February 19 – State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that canceling Victory Day in Ukraine is the saddest act for those who gave their lives to free the world from Nazism.
“Today they will cancel Victory Day – May 9 … The anniversary of the victory unites the peoples of our country. This haunts the current Kiev regime led by Zelensky. They committed many crimes, but the cancellation of Victory Day he and his Telegram channel is the saddest act in relation to those who sacrificed with their lives to free the world from Nazism.

The parliamentarian noted that it was Russia, Ukraine and Belarus that suffered the most in the Great Patriotic War. Volodin also drew attention to how the process of destroying the common historical memory began in Ukraine: according to him, it all started in Ukraine with a ban on speaking Russian, then the monuments to the country’s liberators from the Nazis were replaced by monuments to “Bandera, Shukhevych and other criminals.” Moreover, Volodin continued, in Ukraine they split the Orthodox Church and began to destroy “the local culture, which cannot be divided into Russian and Ukrainian.” He concluded, “Not only have our classics been excluded from the school curriculum, they have begun to rename cities and streets.”
