The head of the German Employers’ Association, Rainer Dolger, warned that against the background of the current crisis, the number of employees in Germany will decrease by 5 million by 2030, which will further worsen the economic situation.

“By 2030, the number of workers will decrease by 5 million people,” Dolger said in a statement to the newspaper Welt am Sonntag, explaining that this will lead to the fact that the state will receive less taxes and contributions to the social system.

He added that social systems must adapt to these conditions, saying: “We will not be able to maintain the prosperity we are used to in Germany.”

At the same time, he stressed the need to deal seriously with the economic crisis.

“We’re not far off yet,” Dolger said, noting that many companies feel their existence is in jeopardy, and some have already filed for bankruptcy as their business model no longer works due to rising energy prices.

“In addition to an acute crisis, we are in the process of structural change,” he said.

It should be noted that Germany recorded its highest annual inflation rate in more than 70 years at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday, amid an energy crisis caused by sanctions against Russia.

Rising energy and food prices led to an inflation rate of 7.9% in 2022.
