During the press event where DCU Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran talked about upcoming movies and TV shows, Safran explained what would happen with Jason Momoa's Aquaman in the DCU.
DC Reveals Surprising Plans
Momoa has been vague over the past few weeks about whether or not he will continue to play Aquaman in the DCU. People even thought he might be replaced by Lobo, a character he loves.
Co-CEO Peter Safran told reporters that Aquaman star Jason Momoa would only play one character in the relaunched DCU at the press event announcing the DCU slate. Collider asked Safran if Momoa would portray Aquaman or Lobo in the new DCU.

“Jason always thought Aquaman was a trilogy in his mind. But he also loves Lobo. He’s been very clear about that, too. He’s never gonna play two characters, but no decision has been made.”
James Gunn and Peter Safran have put a pin on which role Momoa will continue to play in the DCU. This shows that it will be something other than Aquaman. Both CEOs are likely waiting to see how well Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom do at the box office and with critics.
Aquaman Sequel's Success
If the second Aquaman movie doesn't do as well at the box office as Black Adam did, it could be a sign that they should stop making it and Momoa should switch roles.
But it's also possible that neither wants to ruin the excitement for the sequel by letting the public know that Aquaman will be played by someone else.
