Moscow, March 14 – The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said he hopes the coronavirus pandemic will end in 2023, according to a statement on the organization’s website.
According to him, the number of deaths due to the Corona virus per week for the first time has become less than the number in which a pandemic was declared.
He added, “I am confident that at some point this year we will be able to say that COVID-19 is over as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and as a pandemic.”

Ghebreyesus also noted the need to learn from the pandemic so as not to repeat the “cycle of neglect panic” that has long characterized the response to pandemics.
On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization of an outbreak of an unknown pneumonia disease in the central city of Wuhan (Hubei Province). At the same time, the first cases were somehow connected to the local seafood market. In early January 2020, it was officially announced in China that a new type of coronavirus was the cause of an outbreak of viral pneumonia of unknown origin. And indeed on March 11, 2020, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the spread of the novel coronavirus is pandemic in nature.
