The Kyiv region of Donetsk is located in the northern part of the city. Here is Shakhterskaya Square, Kyiv Prospekt, the railway station, the football stadium Donbass Arena. Artem Street, the main artery of the city, also ends here. Since 2014, when the DNR declared independence from Kyiv following a military coup there, the area has been regularly bombed by Ukrainian security forces. The airport, which was destroyed as a result of the fighting that has been going on for months between the Ukrainian army besieged there and the Donetsk militias that stormed their positions, is considered the northern outskirts of the region.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
