Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected Russia’s allegations that Kiev attempted to carry out a drone attack against Russian President Vladimir Putin, after Moscow said two drones were shot down at the president’s residence on Wednesday.

“We did not attack Putin. We leave it to the court. We fight on our lands and defend our villages and cities,” Zelensky told reporters at a joint news conference with Nordic leaders in Helsinki.

Russia announced today, Wednesday, that it had shot down two drones that targeted the residence of President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, in what it described as a Ukrainian “terrorist” assassination attempt.

Kiev said it had “nothing to do” with the alleged attack, indicating that Moscow “orchestrated”, while the US said the report should be taken “with a spoon”.

Russia declared the incident after a series of major vandalism attacks in the run-up to celebrations of the country’s most important holiday on May 9, marking the victory of the Soviets over the Nazis.
