Zelensky said Kiev had sent a proposal to hold a meeting in Beijing
Moscow, February 23 – Volodymyr Zelensky said, during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, that Kiev has sent a proposal to Beijing to meet with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels.
“We sent this signal at the level of diplomats. We would like to meet with China, it is in Ukraine’s interest,” Zelensky said.
He also confirmed once again that he is aware of the Chinese “peace plan”, but has not yet seen a specific document, which means, in his words, “It is too early to diagnose this document.” At the same time, the fact that China started talking about Ukraine was positively assessed by Zelensky.
“The fact that China is already talking about this is really some first steps, it’s very good,” Zelensky said, adding that Kiev would draw conclusions only after it saw “any details”.
Last Saturday, Wang Yi, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that the Chinese authorities will prepare a document on the situation. People’s Republic of China on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. As Wang Yi emphasized, even in the most difficult situations, “Peace should be given a chance.” He noted that this document will be based on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposals to restore peace. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the head of the department, Sergey Lavrov, and Wang Yi at a meeting in Moscow did not discuss China’s so-called settlement plan for Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry also indicated that Moscow and Beijing agree on the causes of the current Ukrainian crisis.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said earlier that Wang Yi shared with the Ukrainian side the main points of the plan for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, after receiving the document, Kiev intends to study the plan and draw conclusions.
In January, Olena Zelenskaya announced that she would deliver letters with a “peace formula” in Ukraine from Volodymyr Zelensky to the presidents of the European Commission, Switzerland and the president of China. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, she said that the letter to Xi Jinping is an invitation to dialogue, and she hopes to get a response.
