NASA declines to conduct trials on its electric airplane
NASA canceled its X-57 electric aircraft project and refused to test a prefabricated model for technical and financial reasons.
This was announced on Friday, June 23, the official representative of “NASA” Bridley Flick. He said: “Unfortunately, we recently discovered a hidden defect in the aircraft’s engine system. The defect could pose an unacceptable hazard to the pilot and maintenance personnel on the ground.” He added that repairing the damage would delay the completion of the project and exceed the funding limits achieved in the current financial year.
He explained that NASA had decided to close the project without conducting atmospheric tests.
It is noteworthy that back in 2016, NASA reported on its work on the implementation of the electric aircraft project. He planned to test-fly the aircraft in 2017. Then the test flight was repeatedly postponed.
And in January last year, NASA President Bill Nelson announced that air tests of the model aircraft would take place in 2023.
