Israeli Forces Target Market in Gaza Strip, Dozens Killed and Injured, Says Interior Ministry
Israeli Forces Target Market in Gaza Strip, Causing Multiple Casualties
On Saturday, Israeli forces launched air strikes targeting a market in the central Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries, according to the Interior Ministry in Gaza. The ministry reported that the Nuseirat market was hit, but did not provide specific figures regarding the victims.
Israeli Raid Sets Market Ablaze
The incident, confirmed by local media outlets such as Al-Aqsa Radio, saw the Israeli raid specifically targeting a store named “Aqal” in the Nuseirat refugee camp. The attack caused the store and nearby shops to catch fire, worsening the situation.
Challenges for Ambulances
Following the airstrike, ambulances faced difficulties in reaching the market, further complicating rescue efforts.
Context of the Conflict
The conflict in Gaza began when the Palestinian Hamas movement initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which involved rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by sea, land, and air. This action was in response to the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased violence by Israeli settlers. In retaliation, the Israeli army launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
Humanitarian Efforts Amidst the Conflict
During the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Hamas, a humanitarian convoy consisting of 20 trucks successfully entered the Gaza Strip from the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing. This marked the first convoy since the conflict began on October 7.
