Italy coach Roberto Mancini has criticized the new system that will be applied at the next World Cup, starting with the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.

And FIFA announced an increase in the number of participating teams from 32 to 48, which, according to Mancini, will have a negative impact on circular players who play more than 60 matches per season.

Mancini spoke about his point of view at the press conference of the Italian Football Association and said: “I don’t like the new world championship system. The number of matches should be reduced for the players because they seem tired at the end.” every season.”

Under the new system, teams will be divided into 12 groups of 4 teams, on the condition that the first and second from each group, in addition to the top 8 teams finishing third in their groups, advance to the 1/8 finals.

The semi-finalists will also play eight matches instead of seven, as was the case at the last World Cup.

Mancini has a contract with the Italian federation until 2026, when the World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

It is noteworthy that the Azzurri team missed the last two stages of the World Cup in 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.
