The Pentagon successfully conducted a test flight of its hypersonic missile.

This was announced by the representative of the US Department of Defense. He said that a copy of the Lockheed Martin rocket, equipped with a hypersonic air-jet engine, completed the program assigned to it and achieved all the goals.

And the Ministry of Defense indicated in a report published by it that the rocket flew at a speed exceeding Mach 5 (which is equivalent to about 6125 km / h) as part of the tests. She explained that the tests were carried out in cooperation with the Pentagon Advanced Future Projects Agency (DAPRA).

It is noteworthy that Russian expert Alexei Leonkov said in December 2022 that the US and Japan could not develop a missile capable of shooting down the Russian Avangard hypersonic missile, and stated that today there is no way to predict its flight. way. It is also not possible to design a rocket capable of reaching speeds ten times higher than the speed of sound.

He pointed out that in order to test such missiles, it is necessary to develop training targets that imitate the warhead of the Avangard missile and perform maneuvers that even the US and Japanese military industries are unable to achieve.

According to a Russian military expert, the experimental prototypes currently in the possession of the Pentagon were able to develop speeds of only Mach 5-6.

It is noteworthy that the last test of the Avangard warhead was completed in 2015. The missiles equipped with it last year entered service with the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.
